5x800m; heavy thruster metcon

1330

CFE intervals:

5 x 800m, 90s rest
Keep within 5 seconds of fastest interval, foul = 20 pushups

Times - 2:39, 2:43, 2:45, 2:46, 2:47

3 fouls = 60 pushups

1700 PT

Work up to 1RM Thruster (125#)

5 rounds for time:
3 thrusters, 115#
10 ring rows
20 double unders

Time - 9:09

100 flutter kicks
100 leg levers

  • Notes: 800 times were pretty rough. There was a wicked wind coming off the mountains on the back stretch, and repeating the 2:39 would have been really hard. Did these in the vibrams and socks and my feet got pretty bad blisters below my big toe. Trying to find some sort of combination to avoid blisters on longer runs, taping them up might be necessary.
  • Nutrition: Pretty solid.
  • Body: Feel good actually, not very sore.

  1. Baker, have you tried Inijiji socks?

  2. Yea Shane those were the socks I wore today. Lately they have been giving me blisters when I do faster runs, I just have the plain cotton type. If I could find a pair of injinjis that were a thinner material maybe it would work better? My feet have always been pretty susceptible to blisters for some reason.

Do your vibrams give you blisters when you wear them without socks?

  3. If I run in them, yes, sometimes. I get blisters on the ball of the foot near the big foot. You should try to get the Injiji socks that are synthetic material.

Also, you might want to look into the book "Fixing Your Feet" by Jon Vonhof. It's the best book available on all sorts of issues relating to footcare while running and other activities.

  4. Thanks man I am definitely going to check out that book, I had heard some people reference it before. And yea I think I am going to look for a different material because cotton pairs that I have just haven't been working out.

I also stumbled upon this site somewhere over in CFE forums...dunno if you have seen it yet but its got loads of stuff on ultras. Check it out - http://www.ultrunr.com/

  5. Yeah, I've seen it. It's pretty much the go-to guide for ultras. A lot of that stuff is archived from the ultra list, which I subscribe to. listserv.dartmouth.edu/archives/ultra.html
